Step aboard the Great Southern and settle into your cabin as we make our way out of Adelaide and start our festive journey. You’ll have time to settle into the rhythm of the train on this special Christmas departure before sitting down to a lavish long lunch – your first meal on board. The afternoon gives you the chance to explore the spectacular Grampians with a choice of Off Train Experiences. Back on board, you’ll enjoy a delicious Christmas Eve supper, complete with onboard entertainment, while chatting with fellow guests or relaxing into the romance of train travel. (B,L,D)
OVERNIGHT: Great Southern
This will be a Christmas Day like no other. Not many people can say their celebrations comprised a coach tour of the cultural icons of Canberra, including Parliament House, a drive by the Lodge (the official residence of Australia’s Prime Minister) and the embassies located in Yarralumla. A highlight is the ‘champagne moment’ at Mount Ainslie Lookout, with stunning views across Canberra. Of course, no Christmas Day is complete without a sumptuous feast, so we’ll make our way to the Hyatt Canberra to partake in fine fare before rejoining the train. Later in the evening, an onboard Christmas-themed dinner will round out the day. (B,L,D)
OVERNIGHT: Great Southern
By Boxing Day, we’ll have crossed into New South Wales. Coffs Harbour plays host to a range of Off Train Experiences today, allowing for exploration beyond the tracks. From an Indigenous guided boardwalk and bush tucker experience to a gentle bike ride along the river to the ocean or drinking in the magnificent views from Sealy Lookout, this coastal city is simply waiting to be discovered. Alternatively, upgrade to a 20-minute helicopter ride – you deserve a Christmas gift after all. Back on the Great Southern, enjoy the last few hours of your journey as we roll towards our final destination: Brisbane. (B,L)
