The Overland

Please read the below information carefully, which is current as at 30 March 2021. We will update this page with more information as it becomes available.

Journey Beyond is aware of updated border restrictions being imposed by various governments for guests from the greater Brisbane area and Queensland.

South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory are now restricting entry for anyone who is from or has been to, the greater Brisbane area since 20 March 2021. Western Australian restrictions include a hard border with the state of Queensland.

Any guests from these regions booked for travel on The Overland will not be permitted to board while these restrictions are in place.

All affected guests are being contacted and will be provided with a credit note to the value of their original fare and support to rebook for a later date.

Journey Beyond will continue to follow advice from relevant authorities and to utilise our JourneySafe operational plan to further protect the health and safety of guests and crew. Further resources on state and territory border restrictions and closures can be found here.

Guests travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne:

(Including stops: Adelaide, Murray Bridge, Bordertown)

Please note: you must complete a travel permit prior to boarding The Overland in Adelaide, Murray Bridge or Bordertown if your final destination in within Victoria. You will be asked to confirm that you have filled out your travel permit for Victoria and have been approved to pass.

Guests travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide:

(Including stops: Southern Cross Station, North Shore Geelong, Ararat, Stawell, Horsham, Dimboola, Nhill)

Please note: you must complete a border pass to enter South Australia prior to boarding The Overland in Melbourne, Geelong, Ararat, Stawell, Horsham, Dimboola or Nhill, if you final destination is within South Australia. You will be asked to confirm that you have completed your border declaration for South Australia and have been approved to pass. This must be completed at least 7 days prior to travel.

Additional information prior to boarding

Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions takes the safety of all our guests seriously. During check-in, you will be asked to provide the following information for COVID tracing purposes.

  • Have you been in contact with someone who has tested positive with COVID or is symptomatic in the last 14 days?
  • Are you symptomatic of a fever or acute respiratory infection e.g. cough, shortness of breath, sore throat?
  • Have you travelled in a designated hotspot in the last 14 days?
  • Have you travelled internationally in the past 14 days?
  • Have you completed your border declaration?
  • Name (per guest)
  • Address (per guest)
  • Phone Number (per guest)
  • Email Address (per guest)

COVID Health Authorities require Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions to collect this information for contact tracing purposes. This information is kept for the sole purpose of contact tracing.

Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions is required by COVID Health Authorities to collect contact information for Non-Essential Business Activity and Undertaking Closure Direction. Businesses are required to store this information securely and dispose of the collected information in line with State Government Guidelines.

Temperature checking in Adelaide and Melbourne will also take place prior to boarding. If you have a medical condition that may result in a high temperature, please provide a letter from your doctor.
